Tottenham are set to run the rule over AS Roma and Italy talent Niccolo Pisilli during the European Under-21 championship in Slovakia
In Archie Gray, Tottenham Hotspur have just one representative in the England squad for the European Under-21 championship in Slovakia.
Spurs fans will be following Gray’s performances with great hope and excitement, as England aim to defend their crown. The European tournament also gives the clubs an opportunity to scout several prodigies and hidden gems across the continent.
Tottenham are reportedly set to scout Middlesbrough and England midfielder Hayden Hackney during the European Under-21 tournament. But Hackney isn’t the only player the Lilywhites will be watching. There are several other gems on their radar, including one from Serie A.
According to TBR Football senior correspondent Graeme Bailey, Tottenham have done “groundwork on a deal” for AS Roma starlet Niccolo Pisilli.
Having joined AS Roma as an eight-year-old kid, Niccolo Pisilli worked his way up their youth categories and signed his first professional contract with the club back in November 2022. After making his debut in 2022, the central midfielder enjoyed his breakthrough campaign last term. He made 41 appearances across all competitions, including 28 in Serie A.
The 20-year-old has seemingly done enough to catch the attention of Tottenham. Pisilli came off the bench to help Italy begin the Euro U-21 tournament on a positive note by beat Romania 1-0 on Thursday afternoon.
A central midfielder midfielder by trade, the Roma talent can play in an advanced role as well and use his creativity and passing range to influence games in the final third. At 20, the Italian aligns perfectly with Tottenham’s recruitment strategy of buying young, hungry and exciting talent who can make an immediate impact to the team as well as prove to be a valuable asset in the future.
Under incoming boss Thomas Frank, Spurs are set to embark on a new era and the players will be determined to fight for and win more titles after last month’s Europa League success. The North Londoners beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final in Bilbao to lift the trophy and subsequently qualify for next season’s Champions League, making the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium an attractive destination for top talents across the world.
Any transfer for Pisilli away from Roma may only happen after his national team commitments, and it is good to see Tottenham have already done groundwork on a deal for him. This suggest there is genuine interest from the Lilywhites in the Italian talent, who will want to make waves on big stage with his performances in Euro Under-21 championship.
