Tottenham Hotspur are confident of signing Angel Gomes on a free transfer this summer.

The 24-year-old central midfielder is out of contract at LOSC Lille, and Tottenham have been working to get the deal done, as per GMS. They have secured Champions League qualification for the next season by winning the UEFA Europa League, and it remains to be seen whether they can convince the England international to join them.

The opportunity to return to the Premier League will be quite exciting for the former Manchester United Academy graduate.

Gomes has been outstanding for the French outfit since joining them. The player has 10 goals and 19 assists to his name for Lille in 134 matches.

He is capable of operating as a central midfielder as well as an attacking midfielder. Tottenham need more creativity and technical ability, and Gomes could prove to be the ideal acquisition. He will help create goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates, and he is equally good at playing in a deeper role and controlling the tempo of the game.

The player has been likened to Rodri and Frenkie de Jong. He could prove to be a solid long-term acquisition for Tottenham, and signing a player of his potential on a free transfer would be a massive bargain.
