Tottenham Hotspur have made their intentions clear to sign a striker following Randal Kolo Muani’s injury. The Frenchman suffered a jaw fracture in Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Manchester United last weekend, ruling him out of action for several weeks. As a result, he has joined fellow centre-forward Dominic Solanke on the sidelines.
Kolo Muani’s injury has left Thomas Frank with just Richarlison as an out-and-out No.9. Mathys Tel can also operate as a centre-forward but he is effective playing off the left flank. As a result, Thomas Frank wants to dip into the winter transfer market to solve the attacking conundrum at N17.
Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic has been heavily linked to Tottenham in the last couple of months. The 26-year-old has played in 15 matches this season, scoring six goals and registering an assist. However, he is out of contract at the end of the campaign, piquing the interest of several European clubs, including Spurs.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham have decided to step away from the race to sign Vlahovic from Juventus. The Lilywhites have indicated they will not make an approach for the Serbian international in January, with the hierarchy not convinced he is the right stylistic fit in Thomas Frank’s system.
Everton, Chelsea and West Ham from the Premier League have also been keeping tabs on the centre-forward, who has scored 64 goals in 160 appearances for Juventus. Vlahovic has been seriously considering a move to the Premier League as his contract in Turin continues to wind down. His form has improved following the arrival of new manager Luciano Spalletti since last month, thereby, leapfrogging summer signing Jonathan David as the club’s first-choice striker.
While there is heavy interest from the Premier League, the big Serb could make a stunning U-turn and sign fresh terms at the Allianz Stadium. The report adds there is now growing optimism that the Serie A club will agree a new contract with Vlahovic by the end of the 2025/26 season, effectively putting him off the transfer market.
Interestingly, Spurs have also shown an interest in David- Vlahovic’s teammate at Juventus. He was supposed to replace Vlahovic as the main man up front for Juventus. Indeed, the Canadian began the season as the starter, but his performances left a lot to be desired. The 25-year-old appears to have lost a bit of confidence after missing a few glaring chances and has scored just once since arriving on a free transfer from LOSC Lille in the summer.
A change of scenery could help David regain his confidence as he has also now fallen behind Vlahovic in the pecking order under Spalletti. Tottenham, aware of the North American star’s predatory instincts inside the box and fine link-up play, could take a gamble on him. David could provide a temporary solution in front of goal at least until the end of the season, if brought in on loan during the winter window.
That said, it will be interesting to see which striker Tottenham pursue after cooling interest in Vlahovic.
