Tottenham new boss Thomas Frank is set to stick with Guglielmo Vicario as his No.1 for the next season

Tottenham Hotspur went through an unprecedented injury condition that barely allowed former boss Ange Postecoglou to pick a settled starting XI.

Barring Pedro Porro, every single Spurs player missed action on the pitch either due to injury, fitness concerns or suspension. There were some long-term absentees that majorly hampered the team defensively. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven spent over three months on the sidelines with respective issues, forcing Ange Postecoglou to rely on back-ups and makeshift solutions.

Tottenham No.1 Guglielmo Vicario also missed a significant period of action following an ankle fracture sustained against Manchester City in November. He returned to full fitness in mid-February and played a key role in the Lilywhites’ Europa League success, pulling off some wonderful saves in the 1-0 win over Manchester United in the final in Bilbao.

However, prior to his injury, the shot-stopper did make some big mistakes that lead to goals, as Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League table. Guglielmo Vicario has been linked with a Tottenham exit, as Thomas Frank looks to reshape the squad as per his vision this summer.

The 28-year-old’s agent was spotted speaking to AC Milan representatives earlier this week, with the Italian club placing the goalkeeper high on their wishlist to replace the outgoing Mike Maignan.

However, according to a report from The Sun, Spurs are unlikely to entertain the prospect of selling Vicario this summer. It remains to be seen whether the new Tottenham boss sticks with the Italian with Vicario as his first choice or if Antonin Kinsky, signed from Slavia Prague in January, can convince him that a change in goal is required.

Goalkeepers Fraser Forster and Alfie Whiteman are set to leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts at the end of the month, but Brandon Austin is expected to stay as the third-choice behind Kinsky and Vicario. Josh Keeley, who impressed on loan at Leyton Orient this past season, is expected to go out on loan again this summer.

Clearly, Frank has other positions to improve ahead of the goalkeeping department. The Dane will want to put his faith in Vicario and let him continue being the No.1, with Kinsky as his back up. The Lilywhites will have a lot of games to cover next season, so having three goalkeepers fit and ready from the onset will be key.

Having suffered an injury on international duty and sent back home, though, Vicario’s condition has to be examined well when the pre-season starts next month.
