Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Bergvall poised for Europa League Final return vs Manchester United

Tottenham are set to face Manchester United in a high-stakes Europa League final, but they’ll be without a natural attacking midfielder, with both James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski sidelined through injury.

However, there’s a surprise boost for the Lilywhites, midfielder Lucas Bergvall is now in contention to feature after making a return to training ahead of the clash at the Estadio de San Mamés on Wednesday.

Despite Ange Postecoglou previously ruling him out of the final, Bergvall’s recovery has given Spurs fresh hope just in time for the biggest game of their season.

The 19-year-old picked up an ankle injury in training before the semi-final clash against Bodø/Glimt and had been wearing a protective boot until recently.

Now, with the boot finally off, Lucas Bergvall looks one step closer to making the trip to Bilbao, a prospect he’ll be eager to turn into reality.

The Swedish teenager has quickly become a fan favourite, and after images of him back in training surfaced on social media, Tottenham supporters have already begun calling for him to start against Manchester United in the Europa League final.

John Wenham believes there exists a little chance of the Swede making and appearance in the final

Lucas Bergvall’s potential return has sparked real optimism within the Tottenham camp ahead of the Europa League final, with John Wenham, owner of Lilywhite Rose, offering key insight into the midfielder’s condition. According to Wenham speaking to Tottenham News, Bergvall has been involved in training at Hotspur Way and may yet be in contention to face Manchester United in Bilbao.

Wenham believes that Ange’s previous comments downplaying Bergvall’s availability might have been a strategic move to keep Manchester United in the dark about Spurs’ lineup. He revealed that a trusted supporter, who attended training through a club invite, confirmed that Bergvall was indeed on the grass and taking part in sessions, although it remains unclear if he has rejoined full-contact training.

Wenham also stressed the importance of Bergvall’s potential inclusion, noting that Tottenham will need him given the current injury crisis in midfield. With Maddison and Kulusevski ruled out, Bergvall’s composure and ability to control play could prove vital in a match of such high stakes.

The Lilywhite Rose Owner speaking to TottenhamNews, believes Tottenham has a trick up its sleeves

“I’m not 100 per cent sure Bergvall will miss the final,”

“Postecoglou implied that he would still be out for a while, but that might be to prevent Manchester United from being aware of which of our players are available and which aren’t.”

“There’s somebody I know who I follow on X who happened to be at training last week as part of a supporters’ club invite, and he told me Bergvall trained, and I take his word on that. I’m not sure whether he was training fully on the grass or in contact training.”

While there remains a possibility that Lucas Bergvall could feature against Manchester United, it is still unlikely that he will start, given he is only just returning from injury. As a result, Ange Postecoglou is expected to prepare for the final as though the teenager won’t be available from the outset. Odobert is currently the most likely candidate to start in the No.10 role, although nothing is confirmed. With the final fast approaching, all eyes are on whether Postecoglou can live up to his ambition of delivering silverware in his second season.
