Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move to bring Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo to Hotspur Way in the ongoing summer transfer window, and the North Londoners are still in the run given that the England international is yet to agree on a new deal at Old Trafford.

The Lilywhites need to bring in a new midfielder for the current roster, as the current options at Thomas Frank’s disposal have shown to be very inconsistent over multiple campaigns, and this is where the need to bring in a new #6 comes into play at Spurs. And a recent report from TBR Football insists that the Lilywhites asked about the 20-year-old for a possible move given that no extension has been agreed upon despite the ongoing talks between the clubs for more than a year.

Mainoo and Man Utd appear in a contract stalemate

And the report insists that the North Londoners are still keeping tabs on his status at M16 and whether he would consider a move to Tottenham if Man United ends up being open to selling him this summer. And moreover, while Mainoo is thought to be keen to stay at Carrington, there is a distinct lack of progress on a new deal which has raised the eyebrows of many supporters at the Manchester Reds, and this could force United to consider their options.

The English prodigy started only 24 games last season, which was highly hindered because of injuries, and with the 2026 World Cup just around the corner, Mainoo will be willing to get those minutes under his belt on a consistent basis, which might not be a guarantee under Ruben Amorim at M16 given how he already has Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte and is also looking to have more of those.

Chelsea have also expressed interest in signing Mainoo

And Tottenham are not alone in the race for his signature; the Blues from West London, Chelsea, have been long-time admirers, and they could reignite interest if Mainoo is made available, but as it stands (as I said before), the Manchester Reds want to keep him, but if there’s no breakthrough in contract talks, it wouldn’t be a surprise if a late-window move comes through. And Levy is preparing in case that door opens.

That being said, Mainoo is not the only midfielder that the North Londoners have been looking at in the ongoing summer window, with the Lilywhites already exploring a move for Bayern Munich’s Joao Palhinha alongside Douglas Luiz, who is also a serious option.
