Tottenham Hotspur have been searching for some sense of form on the pitch all season. Given how the Lilywhites have been enduring a difficult campaign domestically this season, the chiefs at Hotspur Way did try to change those fortunes by changing the man on the touchline, with Igor Tudor coming into the dugout for Thomas Frank, but that has led to no upturn in form.
The Croat has taken charge of three games in the English top tier, and he has failed to deliver results in all three of them.
According to reports in Spanish publication Fichajes, the Lilywhites are now looking to sign Thiago Motta as a possible long-term option at Hotspur Way. The 43-year-old has developed a strong reputation for his progressive tactical ideologies, with his famous 2-7-2 concept often being a part of debating circles among coaches and football fans.
He is someone who brings those aggressive attacking ideas that Tottenham have seen under Ange Postecoglou but with more fluid positional shifts on the pitch.
Given how Tottenham have been far too pragmatic under Thomas Frank, the fans are craving someone who has bold ideas as the chiefs at Hotspur Way look to establish more of an attacking identity following this awful season that Tottenham are having.
Bringing in Motta would be a chance for Tottenham to change the philosophy in place at Hotspur Way. He is someone who prides himself on entertaining football (and that is something Tottenham fans are craving for as well).
And managing in the Premier League looks like something that would appeal to Motta, especially for a club with a stature of Tottenham.
If the Lilywhites do decide to sign Motta, the North Londoners will be bringing in one of the game’s most progressive young coaches at Hotspur Way. And given the scale of the rebuild that is needed for the N17, it is this kind of bold appointment that Tottenham exactly needs.
But for now, Igor Tudor continues to remain at the helm at Hotspur Way, hoping to turn results his way and ensure survival in the English top tier for whosoever his successor is to have something to build on.
