Tottenham Hotspur make a verbal offer for Barcelona forward Ferran Torres

Tottenham Hotspur are in the hunt for attacking reinforcements owing to their problems of creating and scoring goals.

The north Londoners have been short of consistent attacking options since Son Heung-min departed over the summer. They currently have plenty of forwards but none with consistent supply of goals. In fact, defender Micky van de Ven is the club’s top scorer with six goals, which speaks volumes about Spurs’ problems.

Indeed, Thomas Frank’s side have been criticised for their limited creativity and goals, which is something the Hotspur Way chiefs must make it a prioritise to address in the January transfer window. And it looks like Tottenham have already identified a player to bolster their forward options.

Tottenham make verbal offer for Ferran Torres

According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham have made a verbal offer of €65million to Barcelona for Ferran Torres. Barcelona have been surprised by Spurs’ intent to go big for their forward, sparking a debate within the La Liga club.

Barcelona spent €55million to sign Ferran Torres from Manchester City in January 2022. After taking a couple of seasons to settle down in the Catalan club, the Spanish international has started producing the goods consistently since the start of last season. He bagged 19 goals and seven assists in 45 appearances.

The 25-year-old has started the 2025/26 campaign extremely well with seven goals and an assist, forming a fantastic partnership with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal. However, the path to sign the versatile forward will not be easy, given that Hansi Flick considers him a key member of his squad. Not to forget, Barcelona have not been experiencing the best of financial situations in the last few years, so a sale of Torres for €65million would represent profit for them.

Yet, the report adds that while the €65million offer is appealing, some members of Flick’s coaching staff are against losing the forward in January as the season is too long and the club are alive in all competitions. The value of Torres within the squad is solid, so the club must decide whether to prioritise the sporting project or economics here.

Ferran Torres could be a top addition to Thomas Frank’s squad

From Tottenham’s perspective, Thomas Frank has struggled to replace Son’s output on the left flank and remains keen to address that void when the transfer window reopens. The persistent injury problems to Dominic Solanke and Richarlison, coupled with sub-par displays from Mathys Tel, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert, have made versatile players a need now more than ever.

This is why Torres would be a good fit at N17. Extremely flexible due to his ability to play on both flanks and centrally as a No.9, the Spaniard can make a massive difference to Tottenham’s attack. Plus, having represented Manchester City before, he is unlikely to face adaptation issues which we generally see with players arriving from different leagues.

All in all, the Barcelona star would be one of their best transfers in years, if Tottenham manage to pull it off this winter. And for that to happen, the Lilywhites must also convince Torres himself of a move.
