Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall is now facing an anxious wait to discover the extent of his injury

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall has experienced a whirlwind of emotions this week, capping it off by signing a new six-year deal at N17. The Sweden international has been one of the standout performers for Spurs this season, and his impressive displays have rightly earned him a long-term contract. At just 19 years old, Bergvall’s maturity and consistency have made him a key figure in what has otherwise been a turbulent campaign.

Supporters were relieved to see the talented youngster commit his future to the club, especially amid speculation that others might look for exits following Spurs’ dismal Premier League run. Instead, Bergvall has doubled down on his desire to stay and succeed in North London, sending a strong message about his ambition and loyalty.

After making the switch to N17 last summer, no one expected the Swede to make such a big impact at the club in his first season. The injury crisis at the club meant Bergvall would get adequate game time under Ange Postecoglou. The 19-year-old grabbed that opportunity with both hands and has become one of the first names on the team sheet for the Lilywhites.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou gives verdict on Lucas Bergvall’s injury

Tottenham Hotspur took a major step toward European glory with a commanding win over Bodø/Glimt in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals. The Lilywhites rose to the occasion in their biggest game of the season, delivering a performance full of intensity and quality to secure a valuable two-goal advantage ahead of the return leg. However, one notable absence from the starting lineup was Lucas Bergvall. The young Swedish midfielder, who has been a key figure this season, was spotted arriving at the stadium on crutches and was forced to miss out on the historic night.

When asked about the severity of Bergvall’s injury, Ange Postecoglou said in his post-game presser (as transcribed by Football.london),

“It’s too early to assess. You know, it’s just the way our season’s gone on unfortunately, it’s just hugely disappointing for Lucas, he was obviously really excited. He had a big week, re-signing with the club and he’s had such a great year for us.”

The Spurs manager added,

“Like I said, it’s just the way our season’s gone, where in training something innocuous like that ends up with him hurting his ankle. We’ll just assess over the next few days, let it settle down and we’ll find the extent of it.”

Postecoglou described Lucas Bergvall’s injury as unfortunate, expressing sympathy for the young midfielder after he suffered an ankle knock during training. The Tottenham manager admitted it was still too early to determine the full extent of the injury, with further assessments needed in the coming days. Postecoglou also noted that, given the club’s ongoing injury crisis this season, it was sadly no surprise that Bergvall had joined the growing list of sidelined players.

With the second leg of the Europa League semi-final fast approaching, Tottenham fans will be hoping that Lucas Bergvall’s absence doesn’t disrupt the team’s momentum. The Lilywhites are in a strong position to reach the final and have a genuine opportunity to end their 17-year trophy drought. Ange Postecoglou will be counting on the rest of the squad to step up in the 19-year-old’s absence and carry the team over the line. For a season that has largely been forgettable domestically, European success would offer a fitting and much-needed high note.
