Tottenham are struggling to carve out positive results in the Premier League this season. The Lilywhites find themselves stranded in the bottom half of the table, having secured just seven wins from 26 league matches. The dismal run in the competition has also seen the North Londoners sack Thomas Frank, with the Danish tactician being replaced by Igor Tudor.
One of the major reasons for Spurs’ shortcomings in the Premier League has been the ongoing injury crisis at N17. For large parts of Frank’s tenure, the former Brentford boss was forced to name sides without several key attacking players. He was left without the likes of Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, and Mohammed Kudus in recent months, making it difficult for the Danish tactician to field a competitive starting eleven.
To make matters worse, the North Londoners also decided to sell Brennan Johnson in the winter without signing a like-for-like replacement. Fans were left frustrated by this decision, as the Welshman was clearly a useful rotation option as the club looked to compete in both the Premier League and Europe. Now, Spurs are left without a natural left-winger at their disposal after it was confirmed that Wilson Odobert will miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury.
Tottenham need to bring in attacking reinforcements in the summer if the club is serious about competing at the top end of the Premier League table. The Lilywhites are clearly lacking threat on the left-wing, largely due to Wilson Odobert’s untimely injury and the sale of Brennan Johnson. There is an urgent need to sign a proper replacement in the coming months if the North Londoners are intent on getting back on track in the league.
Recent reports have linked Spurs with AC Milan star Christian Pulisic. The USA international’s contract with the Serie A giants runs until the summer of 2027, with no new talks scheduled over an extension just yet. As a result, it is highly likely that Milan could look to sell the player if they are able to command a hefty fee of around €70-80m for his services in the coming months.
CaughtOffside now reports that the Lilywhites may need to fend off competition from two Premier League rivals for Pulisic’s signature. Both Manchester United and Arsenal are keen to land the prolific attacker as they look to strengthen their left-wing options in the summer. The Gunners are hoping to find a replacement for Gabriel Martinelli as they aim to challenge for the league title once again. Meanwhile, United are targeting an out-and-out winger in Pulisic due to a lack of natural wide players in their squad.
Christian Pulisic has made his mark in Italy since making the switch to AC Milan in the summer of 2023. The USA international has scored 43 goals and provided 22 assists during his time at San Siro, establishing himself as one of the most lethal attackers in Serie A in recent years. He has enjoyed regular game time and has found strong form ahead of the upcoming World Cup in the summer. Prior to that, Pulisic didn’t live up to the expectations during his time at Chelsea in England, even being labelled as a flop.
It comes as no surprise that Spurs are keen on signing the talented attacker. At 27, Pulisic still has his best years ahead of him, and the Lilywhites would do well to secure his services in the coming months. He could form a strong partnership with Solanke, Xavi Simons, and Mohammed Kudus in the final third, operating high and wide on the left-wing. As such, the North Londoners are expected to do whatever it takes to land Pulisic, especially given that he would require little time to adapt to English football due to his previous experience in the Premier League.
