Tottenham hoping Bayern Munich agree for a permanent sale of Mathys Tel

Tottenham Hotspur had to bring in an attacker in January after the club endured an injury crisis midway through the season. The Lilywhites turned their heads to Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel as the solution for the ongoing problems in the final third of the pitch. The North London club had to fend off competition from Manchester United for the 20-year-old as they look to fill the gap in the attack urgently.

Spurs signed Mathys Tel on an initial loan till the end of the season. The Lilywhites were also given the option to sign the Frenchman permanently in the summer, based on his performances at N17. It was well documented that the talented forward had fallen down the pecking order under Vincent Kompany, so a move to North London was quickly sorted out.

However, Tel has struggled to make an impact at Spurs since arriving in January. The Frenchman has not performed consistently, but he has made some valuable contributions in helping Tottenham reach the Europa League final. As per Sofascore, the 20-year-old has scored just three goals and provided one assist in 18 games for the Lilywhites.

Tottenham accelerate efforts to sign Mathys Tel permanently from Bayern Munich

Tottenham are facing a massive summer ahead. The North London club is expected to shuffle the squad after enduring a disastrous domestic campaign. There are question marks on the futures of many top Spurs players, including Mathys Tel. It was reported earlier that the Lilywhites wanted to buy the 20-year-old on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich, but at a lowered price.

Now, Spurs have received an update on Tel’s future. As per BILD (via Fussball Transfers ), Bayern Munich have agreed to lower the asking price for the Frenchman. The Bundesliga giants want to offload the 20-year-old in the summer as he has no place in Vincent Kompany’s plans. But Bayern would only be willing to renegotiate a deal for the talented forward if Spurs are serious about signing him.

Daniel Levy had agreed to sign Mathys Tel on an initial loan in January. The North London club had the option of signing the Frenchman permanently for £45 million in the summer. However, the Lilywhites have now deemed that price to be high as they look to add the Bayern Munich loanee to their ranks permanently.

Deemed as one of the best prospects in European football right now, Tel’s performances have started to improve for Spurs now. It was always going to be difficult for the youngster to adjust his game style and perform immediately in England. He joined a struggling team midway through the season. But now, the Frenchman has the chance of performing consistently and displacing Heung-Min Son from the starting eleven.
