Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney.

The 23-year-old was outstanding for the Championship outfit last season, and his performances have attracted the attention of top clubs. According to journalist Graeme Bailey on EFL Analysis, Tottenham have watched the player in action last season, and a deal could be done for a fee of around £20-25 million.

Although the Championship outfit do not need to sell their key players, they will find it tough to turn down a substantial offer.

Tottenham keeping tabs

Bailey revealed: “Hayden Hackney obviously does have a lot of interest from some teams in Europe, and in England there are a host of clubs who have watched him; there isn’t a single Premier League club who hasn’t watched Hackney.

“He’s doing well and Middlesbrough will have a price on him. If someone comes in with £20-25m it’ll be very hard for Middlesbrough to turn that down. It’s pure profit.

“So yes, I do expect Hackney will go. The likes of Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Man United, and West Ham have watched him.

Hayden Hackney would be a quality addition

Tottenham need more quality and depth in the middle of the park, and Hackney would be a solid addition. He has proven himself in the Championship, and he has the ability to make the step up to the Premier League as well. He will add drive, defensive cover and creativity in the middle of the park.

Spurs will need to add more quality on the side if they want to do well next year. They will be competing in the Premier League as well as the UEFA Champions League simultaneously. They need a deeper squad to manage the workload.

Hackney would be a quality long-term acquisition for them. The opportunity to join Tottenham will be quite exciting for the players as well. It would be a huge step up in his career, and he will look to prove himself in the top flight.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to pay up. They have the resources to get the deal across the line.
