Tottenham Hotspur are looking to improve several areas of their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The mood at N17 has changed after the Europa League success, which not only ended the club’s 17-year-long trophy drought but also brought Champions League football back to White Hart Lane. With Champions League football to compete in next term, Daniel Levy has the job of bringing in high quality players who can improve the first XI as well as the squad depth.
It is fair to say that bringing in a new winger is a priority for the Lilywhites, with the likes of Son Heung-min, Timo Werner and Richarlison struggling to deliver the goods consistently. Son appears past his best and was replaced in the first XI by January acquisition Mathys Tel. Even if Tottenham decide to sign Tel on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich, they’d require another quality winger in the roster next term.
According to an exclusive report from Stretty News, Tottenham are among some Premier League clubs interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh.
Newcastle United sold Yankuba Minteh to Brighton for £30 million last summer, making a large profit having signed him from Danish club Odense BK in the summer of 2023 for just €8 million. He shone on loan at Feyenoord last season under Arne Slot, who guided Liverpool to their 20th league title this term.
At Brighton, the Gambian international became a regular on the right flank. He bagged six goals and four assists in 32 Premier League games and was part of the Seagulls side that destroyed Tottenham 4-1 on the final day of the 2024/25 season. Minteh’s performances have also caught the attention of clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, adds the aforementioned report.
Tottenham’s interest in the African wideman makes sense. A revelation in the Premier League, Minteh can play on both flanks or as a wing-back, as evidenced under Fabian Hurzeler at Brighton. Technically strong and tactically versatile player, the 20-year-old would certainly improve the current Tottenham squad.
Blessed with explosive pace and agility, Minteh would be a fantastic option to challenge Brennan Johnson on the right flank. Also, due to his ability to play on the left, Spurs may view him as someone who can replace Werner in the squad. If signed, the Gambian would provide a different dimension to Tottenham’s attack, giving the Tottenham Hotspur faithful great joy and excitement especially on Champions League nights next season.
However, following his fantastic breakout season in the Premier League, Brighton are unlikely to sell Minteh this summer. They’d demand a premium to let him leave, so unless Daniel Levy loosens his purse strings, a move for Minteh in the upcoming window does not sound realistic.
