Tottenham Hotspur breach stadium license with extra Beyoncé concert

English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur continues to endure quite a unique year.

According to Miriam Burrell of the Evening Standard and ESPN, Tottenham breached their stadium license agreement by selling tickets for a fifth Beyoncé show for 2023. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium may only host six concerts per year and was already contracted to welcome the Red Hot Chili Peppers on July 21 and Wizkid on July 29. Beyoncé, meanwhile, had sold-out four events at the North London venue before an extra date for her tour was announced.

Stadium authorities must submit a new planning application to the local council to receive the OK to move forward with all seven events.

"There is a planning process that needs to be followed," said Dana Carlin, the council's cabinet member for planning. "Welcoming global superstars, like Beyoncé, will attract thousands of music fans and benefits our local businesses."

Carlin added that she was "disappointed that we have got to this stage" and said the Wizkid concert "will now need additional planning permission and it is up to Tottenham to follow the rules and get this in place."

As it pertains to on-the-pitch matters, Tottenham had been without manager Antonio Conte on multiple occasions this winter after it was announced on Feb. 1 that he needed surgery to remove his gallbladder. Per James Olley of ESPN, Conte most recently missed Tottenham's last four games but is expected to work Wednesday's home UEFA Champions League round-of-16 second-leg match versus AC Milan. AC Milan defeated Tottenham 1-0 in the first leg last month.

Per Dustin George-Miller of Cartilage Free Captain, Tottenham had to cancel the contract for Matt Doherty rather than allow him to complete a loan move to Atletico Madrid in late January because the English club seemingly didn't realize it had already filled the FIFA quota regarding foreign loans for the season.

Despite such potential distractions, Tottenham remain fourth in the Premier League table and still control their Champions League destiny for the 2023-24 campaign.
