Tottenham Hotspur’s first season under Ange Postecoglou has been impacted by several injuries to key players over the last few months and the manager has realized the importance of beefing up the squad’s depth. It appears that the Lilywhites are now planning to get some transfer business done in the upcoming January window. Jean-Clair Todibo of OGC Nice is one name that has cropped up in recent transfer talks.

Tottenham Hotspur Holds Talks Over Jean-Clair Todibo Signing

Tottenham Make Move For Todibo

Football London’s Rob Guest has reported that Spurs have “opened talks” with the Ligue 1 side over the potential signing of the French centre-back next month. It is now a priority for the North London side to sign a new centre-half after falling short in that position following the nasty injury picked up by Micky van de Ven.

Guest adds that the Lilywhites are looking to strengthen the backline for Postecoglou’s squad in the upcoming January market and are eyeing a possible move for the young defender as a result. Todibo is dubbed to be very impressive with his progressive passing and ability to move forward with the ball, which can make him an ideal fit into the current Spurs set-up. He has already impressed for Nice in the French league and helped them stay afloat in the title race.

What Did Postecoglou Say About January Transfer Plans?

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Postecoglou confirmed that Spurs will be prioritizing the signing of a new defender in January and said: “Once we lost Micky [van de Ven], and Eric Dier’s had some issues as well, we don’t have another centre-back. Young Ash Phillips had just joined the club, so it’s fair to say that we can’t run the risk of that happening again, so that’s obviously a priority for us in January.”

It appears that the Lilywhites will push to sign a new defender and are seriously eyeing a deal for Todibo, who was hailed as “very talented” earlier this year by ex-Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The 23-year-old defender has helped Nice keep nine clean sheets in 14 Ligue 1 games this season, with his impressive performances attracting the attention of the Spurs management.
