There is no surprise that Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to bolster their attacking depth in the summer.
Spurs have struggled in the final third of the pitch this season. Many key attackers have failed to live up to their reputation and perform consistently in Ange Postecoglou’s second season in charge of the club. This is one of the reasons why they have struggled to carve out positive results in domestic competitions.
The North London club needs to add some more creative players to its ranks in the summer. James Maddison is the only pure creative midfielder in the squad and Spurs rely too much on his attacking output to carve open defences. However, when he has had quiet days in the office, Ange Postecoglou’s side have dynamic lacked players who can unlock well-drilled defences.
Tottenham have already started looking for potential players that could improve the squad in the summer. Daniel Levy is already eyeing players who can walk into the current roster at Hotspur away and raise its ceiling, and while many players have been considered, the name of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze maestro has gained a lot of traction.
Eberechi Eze enjoyed perhaps the best day of his career last weekend when his first-half strike secured the FA Cup for Crystal Palace. It was the latest of the many sizzling displays from the 26-year-old this season, and they surprisingly haven’t gone unnoticed.
Now, according to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are prepared to meet Eberechi Eze’s £68 million release clause. This hefty release clause has put off many clubs, but that has not scared the North Londoners, who have been monitoring the versatile playmaker’s situation and ready to fulfil Crystal Palace’s financial demands.
Spurs, though, face a big battle from their Premier League rivals to sign the England international, who is set to enter the final two years of his contract with the Eagles. While Oliver Glasner’s side will play in the Europa League next season after winning the FA Cup, Eberechi Eze is ‘determined’ to play Champions League football.
The aforementioned report adds there are no official offers from Spurs yet. However, the Lilywhites’ interest in the player is genuine and could soon activate Eze’s buyout clause to bring him across the capital.
Ange’s side are set to face Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao, and the winners of this competition will get a direct entry into the Champions League next season. Tottenham are desperate to win the Europa League, which will give a big boost to their spending power in the summer and help attract top talents.
The N17-based club showing a willingness to meet Eze’s release clause signals ambition from Levy. If Levy manages to bring Palace’s FA Cup hero to White Hart Lane, it would represent a statement of interest from Tottenham.
