‘Looks Bad’ for Tottenham

Thomas Frank has revealed that Maddison’s issue, which he suffered during a fixture against Newcastle United in their pre-season tour, “looks like a bad injury”. The manager described this as a “brutal” blow for the squad, with the Premier League season less than two weeks away and Spurs already having problems with depth in the number ten position.

Frank also disclosed that he is “pretty sure” that the problem is with the same knee which ruled the England international out for 52 days in the 2024/25 season. Maddison is already injury-prone, having missed at least 30 days in each of the last three seasons. If he is having recurring injuries, this could be a big problem for Tottenham who will play Champions League football alongside domestic competitions this year.

The number ten position has been described as one of a “priority” by critics, in this summer transfer window. Even prior to Maddison’s injury, pundits had pointed out that both he and Kulusevski cannot be relied upon to stay fit all season. Now, with the duo out, the search for depth is becoming desperate.
