Tottenham Hotspur warned against making summer move for Manchester United star not ‘worth signing’

Marcus Rashford joined Aston Villa on loan during the January transfer window after Ruben Amorim made it clear that he was no longer part of his plans at Manchester United. The 27-year-old showed signs of renaissance at Aston Villa, netting two goals and suppling as many assists in 10 Premier League games, but lack of funds have meant that the Midlands club have not been able to sign him permanently.

It has left the England international’s future at Old Trafford uncertain, with Spurs emerging as one of the clubs that could provide him with an escape route from Man United. One possible hurdle for the Lilywhites to overcome in their pursuit of Rashford is that Daniel Levy would not be willing to match the forward’s £325,000-a-week current wages.

However, the Wythenshawe-born star is open to take a pay cut to facilitate a move away from his boyhood club this summer. The Man United outcast will need to take a massive pay cut for Daniel Levy to consider signing him, with Spurs skipper Son Heung-min currently taking home just under £200,000-a-week.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King, however, does not want Tottenham to sign Rashford as he is not fully convinced whether he is the right fit or not.

“This is another forward that Tottenham are linked with,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.

“They could end up having too many players in that area, and if I were one of those players, I’d be wanting to know if I’m going to be playing regularly next season.

“If Rashford is worth signing, why aren’t Villa doing everything they can to sign him. United don’t want him, there’s been talk about him going here, there and everywhere.

“He will need to accept a wage reduction, get himself fit, and get playing. However, this might be a player that Tottenham are better off avoiding.”

Rashford remains out of favour with Amorim ahead of new season. The Englishman’s wages of above £300,000-a-week would understandably be challenging for a lot of clubs after his stock has plummeted in the last 15 to 18 months.

At 27, the forward must be playing at the peak of his powers and destroying teams with the talent and ability he possesses. However, that hasn’t been the case as Rashford continues to be a shadow of his former self.

Despite being available for £40 million, Spurs must avoid signing the versatile attacker. Plus, Rashford harbours a summer move to Barcelona over his other suitors, so it would be in the North London club’s best interests to stay away from the Mancunian talent.
