Son Heung-min is keen to return to Tottenham Hotspur and bid goodbye to the fans

Tottenham Hotspur icon Son Heung-min has been tearing it up in MLS right now. But it is clear that the South Korean international’s heart is clearly among the corridors of Hotspur Way.

The 33-year-old made a surprise exit to LAFC in the last summer transfer window. And the exit happened so quickly that he didn’t have a chance to say goodbye to the supporters. It was definitely not a send-off that he deserved.

Son speaks on his desire to return to Tottenham

A decade at Hotspur Way. 173 goals donning that badge. And then countless moments of magic. And yet, there was no proper goodbye for him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And this has clearly not been sitting right either with him or, honestly, with fans as well. Given how everyone at Tottenham loved Sonny, many growing up watching him run across the pitch at N17, it definitely doesn’t sit right with fans as well.

And he opened up in a recent interview about this deep connection that he shares with Tottenham. And he also went on to reveal how he still plans to return to N17 to get the send-off. And from how he is speaking, you can tell it genuinely means a lot to him. He said (via. The Boy Hotspur YouTube):

“I definitely want to [say goodbye in person], but because of all the transfer was going on & the last game was in Korea so I want to say goodbye in front of them, also they deserve to see me in physically to say goodbye.”

TTLB Opinion

While he has been linked with a loan move to Barcelona in the winter window, it doesn’t look like Tottenham would go in for him. Especially given the current dynamics of the squad and the fact that there are other impending squad needs where the club has to bring in reinforcements.

At the moment he has settled into life in Los Angeles.

But there surely needs to be something that gets him that much-deserved send-off. And it can be anything, a farewell appearance or maybe an ambassador role (or something else). He needs that final moment with the Lilywhites supporters and vice versa.

You honour players like Son. Honestly, Sonny has still got that same smile and a big heart which made him a fan favourite at N17 in the first place. And the fact that he is the one pushing for a proper send-off says everything about the person he is. We can only hope that the club feels the same about it.
