Tottenham Hotspur are ahead of Liverpool in the race for Marc Guehi

After having almost joined Liverpool over the summer, to the point that even medicals were out of the way, Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi had to stay back at South London. The 25-year-old England international had to stay back because The Eagles changed their mind at the 11th hour.

Liverpool still stand a chance of landing the player over the January window, or better, on a free next summer. However, as per new developments from GiveMeSport, Tottenham emerge as the emerging club in the race to secure the signature of Guehi. Spurs see him as a low risk, high impact signing.

He is 25, has already captained Palace, played in the Premier League for years, and has England caps too. Slotting him next to Romero would instantly boost the back line without Tottenham having to blow the budget. That is exactly the kind of reinforcement they have been trying to find.

One to watch!

To add to this, Barcelona and Real Madrid are keeping tabs ahead of January, and Palace might accept a reduced fee rather than lose him for nothing in June.

Steve Parish once called him a “superstar”, and while Palace fans will not like it, he has outgrown the club. Once he is a free agent, every serious side in Europe will at least take a look. For Spurs, the appeal is obvious. He is Premier League ready, needs no adaptation, and still has his peak years ahead.

Guehi’s decision will come down to minutes, not just money. If he moves in January, he will need to join a team where he starts regularly. The 2026 World Cup is around the corner, and he wants to be in England’s XI under Thomas Tuchel, not sat on a bench at a superclub.

Tottenham being labelled leading contenders makes sense. The club needs another top centre back, and he wants a platform bigger than Palace. If they move quickly before Liverpool or a La Liga club get serious, they have a real shot at pulling it off.
