Tottenham have made checks on Sutton’s highly-rated central defender Jack Taylor this season

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a massive squad revamp in the summer—a necessity after their worst-ever top-flight campaign.

The North Londoners are looking to bring in defensive reinforcements in the summer. They are aiming to bolster their squad depth for next season. The club bosses are also keen on adding young talents to their ranks for next season.

It was reported in January that Spurs were interested in signing Sutton defender Jack Taylor. A product of the Sutton academy, Jack Taylor spent the first half of the season on loan with Hampton & Richmond Borough, where he made 23 appearances. He returned to Sutton at the turn of the year and has since made 13 appearances in the National League.

The 20-year-old’s performances at both Hampton and Richmond Borough and Sutton haven’t gone unnoticed, putting several clubs in the English pyramid on red alert.

According to an exclusive report from EFL Analysis, Tottenham are among several clubs keeping tabs on the situation of Jack Taylor at Sutton. They have made the checks on the young defender, who is being monitored by clubs such as Millwall, Portsmouth, Peterborough United, West Ham, Brentford, Bristol City, MK Dons and Cambridge United.

Under Steve Morison’s guidance at Sutton, Taylor has established himself as a key player in defence. This is why clubs across England are sitting back and taking notice of the highly-rated centre-back’s performances, and as things stand, a scramble for his signature is looming large.

This is also down to the fact that the Englishman’s contract at Sutton expires at the end of the season (Transfermarkt), and with the player seemingly interested in a move to pastures new, clubs from the Premier League to League Two and beyond are potentially ready to make a move for him.

Taylor’s rise in the National League is already a story in itself, and his reputation would further be enhanced if he achieves a move to a club higher up the ladder in English football. Spurs could very well take a punt on him, compounding on their transfer strategy of investing in young talent.

In recent years, the Lilywhites have recruited young, talented defenders with potential. The acquisitions of Ashley Phillips and Luka Vuskovic are prime examples of that. They signed Phillips and Vuskovic and loaned them out to gain valuable experience. A similar plan in terms of Taylor could be hatched if he arrives at White Hart Lane this summer.
