Tottenham have expressed an interest in signing Atalanta star Ademola Lookman

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to add more firepower to their attack in this transfer window after last season’s struggles to find some clinical depth in front of goal.

Barring the confirmation of Mathys Tel signing a permanent deal last month, there has not been a single positive update in terms of incomings at N17. Thomas Frank has to be backed in the coming weeks, or else the new Spurs boss will need to force results with the squad that he has inherited from Ange Postecoglou.

With Son Heung-min looking past his prime now, Richarlison injury prone, Wilson Odobert yet to prove himself and Dominic Solanke enduring an average debut season in North London, Daniel Levy must make sure to add a quality forward to Thomas Frank’s ranks before the pre-season begins.

It was reported earlier this year that Tottenham were interested in signing Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman in the summer. The 27-year-old has made it clear that he wants to leave for pastures new after three seasons at Atalanta.

Now, according to a report from The Birmingham Mail, Tottenham are among some top Premier League clubs interested in signing Ademola Lookman, who wishes to make a return to England this summer. Aston Villa, Arsenal and Newcastle United are all keen on the player.

The Nigerian international has previous experience of playing in the Premier League with clubs such as Everton, Fulham and Leicester City. So, ideally, he’d not required bedding in period if a move back to the Premier League materialises. A switch to Tottenham would be a great move for Lookman, who will be keen to prove himself in the English top-flight after reigniting his stuttering career in Bergamo.

Frank will need to make major changes to this squad that finished a lowly 17th in the Premier League last season, and Lookman could offer skill, flair, creativity and a goal threat in a variety of positions. He has registered 52 goals and 25 assists in 118 appearances for Atalanta, including 20 goals and seven assists in 40 outings last term. At 27, the African star is operating at the peak of his powers and would come to the Premier League with a point to prove as well.

It remains to be seen how much Atalanta would demand for Lookman this summer. Nonetheless, Levy must act quick if he wants to bring the Nigerian to the Hotspur Way ahead of the new season. Signing Lookman would instantly elevate the quality of the squad, and his versatility to play in different positions would benefit Frank as well.
