Brentford youngster Yegor Yarmolyuk has emerged as a target for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the appointment of Thomas Frank as their new head coach, with ongoing talks between them and Brentford understood to have progressed positively in recent days. Now, there is a growing feeling that the 51-year-old could be named as Ange Postecoglou’s successor by the weekend.

Even before Thomas Frank being instilled as the new Spurs boss, several Brentford players have already been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs are looking to hijack Manchester United’s move for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, while the Bees’ last season’s assist king Mikkel Damsgaard has emerged as a target for the North Londoners. Unsurprisingly, now there is another player linked with a switch across the capital.

According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are among several Premier League clubs closely tracking Brentford midfielder Yegor Yarmolyuk. Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, an unnamed Premier League and La Liga club have also enquired about the youngster’s situation.

A part of Brentford since 2022, Yegor Yarmolyuk has made 66 appearances across three seasons thus far. He made 31 Premier League appearances this past term, mostly coming off the bench and helping the Bees close out games. Yet, he has been linked with a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium in recent weeks.

The aforementioned report adds Brentford have set a price tag of around €30 million for the two-cap Ukrainian international, although they are not prioritising his sale and want to keep him part of their squad.

Given the valuation set by the West Londoners, Yarmolyuk could prove to be a value-for-money, long-term addition for Tottenham. Spurs have looked quite vulnerable last season, and a strong defensive-minded midfielder could help them tighten up at the back. The Ukrainian will help protect the back and break up opposition attacking moves.

The 21-year-old has got adjusted to the demands of the Premier League football since his move from Ukrainian side Dnipro, and he could make an instant impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if he joins the club. A versatile midfielder, Yarmolyuk has an impressive passing range and engine, which he uses to effectively build attacks from the back.

With Yves Bissouma potentially on his way out of N17, the Brentford man could be a perfect replacement. The prospect of reuniting with Thomas Frank at Tottenham as well as playing in the Champions League next season could be tempting for him if he does decide to leave Brentford. A tenacious midfielder, Spurs could benefit having a young talent like the Ukrainian in the squad for years to come.
