Tottenham line up Ajax wonderkid as an alternative to Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo.

Tottenham Hotspur have been among the clubs circling Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January transfer window.

Antoine Semenyo has been in terrific form for Bournemouth this season. The versatile Ghanaian winger has scored eight goals and provided three assists in just 14 Premier League appearances, despite his and his team’s form fading of late. The 25-year-old is expected to be the subject of several January offers, with Manchester United and Manchester City leading others in the race to sign him.

Amid growing interest, Tottenham have decided to cool their interest in Semenyo before the start of the transfer window. There is no specific reason as to why the Lilywhites have decided against pursuing the Bournemouth star, but it looks like they have no other targets in mind to bolster their attacking unit for the second half of the season.

Tottenham shift their focus to Ajax starlet Mika Godts

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Ajax winger Mika Godts is emerging as a possible target for Tottenham. The Belgian has often drawn comparisons to his countryman, Eden Hazard. The north London club sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old in action in Ajax’s last two games – a 2-0 win over Feyenoord, where he bagged an assist, and a 2-2 draw at NEC, where the winger scored the second goal.

From the Genk academy in Belgium, Mika Godts made the move to Ajax in January 2023. He has enjoyed a quick rise at Ajax, playing regularly and becoming a key part of their first-team setup. The Belgian has been a flavour of the Eredivisie this season, registering seven goals and six assists in 15 appearances.

Having drawn comparisons with Chelsea great and his Belgium compatriot Eden Hazard, Godts has been among the rare bright spots in an otherwise disappointing campaign for Ajax, who are currently third under interim head coach Fred Grim following the sacking of John Heitinga in November.

The report adds the Dutch giants are keen to keep hold of the dynamic wide-man, but due to their struggles, it may be difficult. Tottenham have added Godts to their shortlist of winger options- one of Semenyo’s alternatives.

Godts could inject fresh spark and energy into Tottenham’s attack

Regarded as one of the brightest attacking talents for his age in Europe, Godts could reinvigorate the Tottenham attack that has been dull and uninspiring under Thomas Frank. The likes of Mathys Tel, Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons haven’t done enough in terms of creativity and flair, leading to Spurs struggling to score goals.

Capable of playing on either wing, as well as centrally as a No.10, Godts possesses the potential to lift the Tottenham attack with his quick dribbling, flexibility, close control and directness. He is a fresh, raw talent who will add the unpredictability factor too, if the north Londoners manage to prise him away from Ajax.

The Belgian is rapidly ascending in European football, a player worth investing in for now and the future for Tottenham.
