Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to improve the attacking unit during the January transfer window, and they have been linked with Ivan Toney.
The 29-year-old has been excellent for Al-Ahli since moving to the Saudi Arabian League, and he has been a player for them. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to make a move for him in the coming weeks.
Toney had great success at Brentford under Thomas Frank, and he could make an instant impact at Tottenham if he joins the club. He should be able to settle in quickly under the Danish manager.
The opportunity to return to the Premier League could be exciting, but the finances could complicate any potential move. The striker is on massive wages in Saudi Arabia, and Tottenham will not be able to afford that. It will be interesting to see if the English striker is willing to take a pay cut to join them.
Pete O’Rourke said to Football Insider: “Well, yeah, obviously you’ve got the Tottenham link, Thomas Frank and Ivan Toney from before.
“They had great success together at Brentford. Tottenham [are] being linked with a number of strikers as it does seem that they might want to bring in a new number nine in January.
“The problem with Ivan Toney is it’s not an easy deal to do for various reasons. He’s on huge wages over there in the Saudi Pro League, so Tottenham wouldn’t be able to offer him the money that he’s earning out there in the Saudi Pro League.”
It is no secret that Tottenham need a quality striker. Dominic Solanke and Richarlison have not been able to find the back of the net regularly. They need an upgrade. Toney has proven himself in the Premier League in the past, and he could make a defining impact in the final third.
