Tottenham lurking in the background as 28-year-old PL ace nears January exit

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been linked with a move away from the club in the coming weeks.

The 28-year-old has not been able to hold down a regular starting spot at the Premier League club and he is expected to move on in January.

The £45 million midfielder has been linked with clubs like Newcastle United recently but a report from Football Insider claims that Tottenham are lurking in the background.

It will be interesting to see if the North London outfit decides to come forward with an offer for the player.

The midfielder could leave Manchester City on loan or permanently. He could prove to be a quality short-term acquisition for Tottenham even if they are not willing to sign him permanently in January.

They will need more options in the midfield especially when players like Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr are away on international duty during the African Cup of Nations.

If Phillips can impress with his performances during the second half of the season there will be plenty of opportunities for clubs like Tottenham to sign him permanently in the summer.

The 28-year-old has shown his quality in the Premier League with Leeds United in the past and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Tottenham will be desperate to secure Champions League qualification at the end of the season and quality arrivals like Phillips will certainly help them finish the season strongly.
