OGC Nice striker Evann Guessand has decided to snub Tottenham and sign for Aston Villa instead

A new attacking frontline at Tottenham is something that Daniel Levy needs to focus on before the transfer window ends. The Lilywhites ended last season on a high after winning the Europa League. But the historic achievement was not enough to hide the problems persisting on the pitch. Now, the North London club must focus on bringing in quality players that could bolster the squad depth for next season.

The most obvious upgrade that is needed at Spurs is the ‘number nine’ position. The Lilywhites spent a fortune on signing Dominic Solanke last summer from Bournemouth in a high-profile deal. But it is fair to say that England international did not hit the ground running instantly. And he also found life tough during the initial months following his move to N17.

The lack of cover up front did not help Ange Postecoglou’s cause either. With Solanke struggling to make an impact week in week out at N17, Spurs were forced to rely on an ‘out-of-form’ Richarlison as a backup striker. The Brazil international has failed to live up to the expectations at the club, and he failed to make the starting spot his own during Solanke’s absence from the team.

Tottenham suffer setback in their efforts land OGC Nice striker Evann Guessand

There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to sign a new striker following Richarlison’s uncertain future at N17. The Brazil international is linked with a summer move for weeks now, and it looks like a sale will come into fruition in the coming weeks. So, Daniel Levy will look to bring in a new replacement that could keep Solanke on his toes next season, as well as, provide competition for a spot in the starting eleven.

It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing OGC Nice striker Evann Guessand. The Lilywhites tracked the Ivory Coast striker for quite some time and were also prepared to prepare a bid worth £22m for his services. Not only that, but the Lilywhite were also keen to outbid any potential rivals for his signature as they looked to land the African ace.

However, the transfer saga has taken a massive U-turn as Spurs are all set to miss out on Guessand. As per Fabrizio Romano (via X), Aston Villa have managed to strike a deal with OGC Nice for the prolific striker’s services. The Villans have managed to secure a deal worth €35m (including €5m add-ons) for Evann Guessand’s signature. The 24-year-old is expected to travel to Birmingham for his contract signing and medical in the coming days.

This is a massive blow for Tottenham and it has surely dented the North London club’s hopes of landing a prolific striker for next season. The Lilywhites should now shift their focus on other alternatives as they prepare for life under Thomas Frank. With Evann Guessand out of the picture now, Spurs should look to buy Brentford striker Yoane Wissa in the summer. The DR Congo international is keen on a summer move, and working with Thomas Frank is something that would tempt him.
