Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to flex their muscle in the summer transfer window after securing Champions League qualification via the Europa League success in Bilbao.
Spurs will be back in the Champions League next season after a three-year hiatus and must prepare well to compete with the continent’s big boys. The extra revenue that the North Londoners will receive following Champions League qualification should give them a lot of space to wiggle and bolster their squad this summer.
It remains to be seen whether Ange Postecoglou stays in the job to oversee Spurs’ Champions League adventure next term, but he has already hinted the kind of signings the club needs to make for a much-improved 2025/26 season. The Greek-Aussie coach admitted last week that Tottenham need to sign players who have previous experience of Champions League football and are comfortable making the step up to that level.
The Lilywhites will be keen to make huge improvements for last summer’s disappointing transfer window, which left them short to cover 60 games across all competitions. So, Ange Postecoglou’s desire to add more experience to the squad is not wrong, with the club having focused on targeting young talents in recent transfer windows.
Now, according to a report from Sky Sports, Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane. The forward becomes a free agent when his Bayern Munich contract expires at the end of June.
The Bundesliga champions have been unable to agree a new contract with Leroy Sane, who has been offered a new three-year deal on a reduced salary. As things stand, he is heading towards attaining free agency, although there is still time left for a situation to change.
The Germany international has performed well for Bayern over the years, netting 61 goals and registering 55 assists in 220 appearances. He has previous experience of playing in England, where he donned the Manchester City colours and lifted two Premier League titles under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage. The Essen-born talent was a constant menace for the opposition defenders, thanks to his blistering pace, unpredictability and directness.
At 29 and well into the peak of his powers, Sane could be a sensational acquisition on a potential free transfer for Tottenham. He’d bring quality, rich experience and winning mentality to the current squad. Also, his versatility to operate anywhere across the frontline should appeal to the club bosses and the head coach, especially with Son Heung-min past his prime and Richarlison heading to the exit door.
With Champions League football on offer, Sane could be tempted to join the North Londoners and test himself in the Premier League again. The only possible obstacle will be his eye-watering wages, but if Sane is ready to take a wage cut to join Spurs, a deal on a free transfer should be a no-brainer.
