Tottenham have officially confirmed that academy goalkeeper Luca Gunter has joined Vanarama National League side Wealdstone on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper has been an integral part of Spurs’ youth system, featuring for the Under-21 team this season with seven appearances across Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.
His loan to Wealdstone offers a valuable chance to gain senior-level experience while providing a boost to the Stones in their ongoing National League season.
Gunter’s football journey began at Queens Park Rangers before he joined Tottenham’s academy at the age of 12. Since then, his talent and leadership skills have shone through, earning him recognition at the international level.
He has represented England across multiple age groups, from the Under-15s to the Under-19s, and was called up to the England Under-20 Elite Squad in October last year.
The young shot-stopper has enjoyed notable success during his time at Spurs. He captained the Under-18 side to an impressive double, securing both the U17 and U18 Premier League Cups.
Additionally, he was instrumental in Tottenham’s Under-21 team clinching the Premier League 2 title last season.
Reflecting on his loan move, Gunter shared his excitement about the opportunity to play regular senior football.
He highlighted his eagerness to contribute to Wealdstone’s ambitions while gaining crucial experience in a competitive environment.
This loan move aligns with Tottenham’s commitment to nurturing young talent by providing pathways for development and progression into senior football.
For Gunter, the switch to Wealdstone represents a pivotal step in his career as he looks to further hone his skills and make a significant impact at the professional level.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Spurs signed Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague, after both Vicario and Fraser Forster got injured. He made an instant impact on his debut in the League Cup against Liverpool, putting on a star performance to help his side win the first leg of the semi-final.
Spurs do need more signings to turn their current form around, with several key first-team players out injured.
They currently sit 15th in the Premier League table and are closer to the relegation zone than the top 4. Ange Postecoglou’s future remains uncertain given the current form, but the club hierarchy are not looking to sack him just yet as they understand that injuries have played a big role in their season being derailed.
