Tottenham Hotspur are looking to kickstart a new era at N17 under Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites are aiming to build on the Europa League success and close the gap on their rivals next season after a dismal domestic campaign. But the first step to achieve that feat is by bringing in reinforcements in the summer and addressing the issues on the pitch.
It has only been two weeks since the season got over and the North London club is already playing catch-up with its rivals in the transfer market. While other clubs are signing players left, right, and centre, Spurs have not got going and have already missed out on some of their intended targets. The fans have also questioned Daniel Levy’s ambitions following a slow start to the summer by the Lilywhites.
The North London club struggled in the final third of the pitch last season as many key players failed to perform consistently. Club captain Heung-Min Son did not get going for most parts of the campaign, and also lost out his place in the starting eleven due to that. Whereas, Son’s backup Mathys Tel also failed to make an instant impact after arriving on loan in January.
There should be no doubts that a clear upgrade is needed on the left flank at N17. With Heung-Min Son facing an uncertain future at the club following a steady decline, Daniel Levy needs to bring in a new winger to fill the void left behind by the South Korea international if he decides to leave Hotspur Way.
As per The Sun, Tottenham are interested in signing Jadon Sancho from Manchester United in the summer. The England international has not endured a successful stint at Old Trafford since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. And it looks very likely that the winger has no future at M16 following a break down in relations with the club. The Red Devils have also set a price tag of £25m for his services.
The aforementioned report also states that Spurs are not the only ones willing to sign the 25-year-old this summer. Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also interested in his services as they look to bolster their attacks. However, the Lilywhites will find it tough to agree personal terms with the winger as Sancho is earning around £300,000-a-week at United.
It is fair to say that Spurs will be taking a massive risk if they sign Sancho in the summer. The 25-year-old has lost his place at Man United and has not showed any glimpses of his true potential since arriving from Dortmund. Signing the Englishman will also cost a lot and the Lilywhites will have to break their wage cap to afford his signing.
As per Sofascore, Sancho racked up five goals and eight assists this season in 42 appearances in all competitions. He will also not fit in at N17 under Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician wants his wingers to be quick and explosive during counter-attacks. Sancho is the opposite of that, as he likes to slow the tempo down during attacks and plays the safe options more often than not.
