Atletico Madrid embarrass Tottenham in the Champions League round-of- 16 clash.

Tottenham were humiliated 5-2 in Madrid in one of the most embarrassing European performances in the club’s recent history. Antonin Kinsky’s Champions League debut turned into a nightmare of the highest order, with two catastrophic errors gifting Atletico Madrid goals before being replaced by Vicario at just 17 minutes. Porro and Solanke got on the scoresheet, but it amounted to nothing more than consolation in a truly dreadful night.

Tottenham Player Ratings

Antonin Kinsky (1/10): A debut to forget entirely. Slipped while attempting to play out from the back to hand Atletico their opener, then produced an almost unbelievable second disaster, gifting the ball directly to Julian Alvarez, who converted into an open net. Hauled off after just 17 minutes, it was as bad a debut as you will ever see at this level.

Cristian Romero (4/10): Returned from suspension but offered little of note in a defence that was systematically taken apart. Failed to organise those around him and could not prevent Atletico from finding space repeatedly. A disappointing return to action.

Kevin Danso (4/10): Struggled with Atletico’s movement and intensity throughout. Worked without distinction and was unable to impose himself defensively when Spurs needed leadership at the back most desperately.

Micky van de Ven (3/10): Another costly slip that directly led to Atletico’s second goal, following his red card catastrophe against Crystal Palace. Back-to-back defining individual errors from a player of his quality is deeply alarming. His confidence looks badly shot at the worst imaginable time.

Pedro Porro (6/10): One of the few positives on a miserable night, getting on the scoresheet to give Spurs a brief moment of hope. Showed attacking intent throughout and was one of the more willing performers in a side that collectively capitulated.

Pape Matar Sarr (4/10): Bypassed too easily by Atletico’s midfield runners and offered insufficient protection to a defence already stretched to breaking point. Another performance that raises serious questions about his suitability for matches of this magnitude.

Archie Gray (5/10): Worked diligently and maintained reasonable composure amid the chaos. Not spectacular but one of the steadier performers on a night when that counted for something.

Djed Spence (4/10): Struggled to make any meaningful impact before being replaced by Simons in the 83rd minute. Offered little going forward and was repeatedly exposed defensively.

Randal Kolo Muani (4/10): Worked hard as ever but was isolated and starved of service in a team that was chasing the game almost from the first whistle. Replaced by Solanke at half-time.

Richarlison (5/10): One of Tottenham’s more energetic performers, showing desire and work rate that at least demonstrated some fight. Pressed relentlessly and caused Atletico some discomfort before being replaced by Palhinha in the 68th minute. He was booked as well.

Mathys Tel (4/10): Lacked the quality and composure to influence proceedings at this level and was replaced by Gallagher at half-time, having made minimal impact.

Substitutes

Guglielmo Vicario (5/10): Came on for the stricken Kinsky at 17 minutes and steadied things somewhat, though the tie was already effectively over by the time he took the field.

Conor Gallagher (5/10): Introduced at half-time and showed more urgency than most, but the deficit was too great to overcome.

Dominic Solanke (6/10): Came on at half-time and grabbed a goal to give Spurs some fleeting hope. Worked hard and took his chance well, one of the few genuinely positive contributions from the bench.

Palhinha (N/A): Introduced in the 68th minute with the result long decided.

Xavi Simons (N/A): Came on in the 83rd minute, too late to influence anything meaningful.
