Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has managed to end the club’s 17-year wait for silverware

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is the talk of the town right now after delivering a historic result. His team managed to end the club’s 17-year long wait for a major trophy on Wednesday night. The Lilywhites beat all odds to win the Europa League after beating Manchester United 1-0 in an enthralling final. The win ensured Champions League football for next season as well for the North London club.

But Big Ange had been in the media spotlight for all the wrong reasons until the final. Amidst all the celebrations for winning the Europa League, the fans and the media have not forgotten the disastrous domestic campaign. Spurs are 17th in the Premier League table and Ange’s men are all set to record the club’s lowest ever points tally in a single Premier League season.

The Lilywhites have just not got going domestically. This has put Ange Postecoglou’s job under threat and the Europa League win might not be enough for the Australian to save his job. It was reported earlier that Daniel Levy would sack Big Ange once the season ended, irrespective of the outcome in the Europa League final. If that stands true, then a change in the dugout is imminent.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou might not survive the sack

One question that many fans are asking is…. how can the club sack a manager that has just won a major trophy to end the season? Well, in a perfect world, Ange Postecoglou would be given time to build on the historic win and continue with his project. But anything is possible in football. And the dismal Premier League campaign will overshadow the Europa League achievement once the euphoria wears down.

As per Daily Mail, Tottenham players believe that Ange Postecoglou will still get the sack in the summer due to the poor Premier League campaign. As for Big Ange, the 59-year-old looked resigned to the fact that it is not in his hands now and he has done everything that he could do to prolong his stay at N17. It is quite evident that the players still back the ex-Celtic boss and believe in his ideas as well.

Ange Postecoglou was quite adamant after the final to stay at N17 and continue with his project beyond this season. The Australian reiterated that it was not in his hands to make the decision and he would not blame the board if they chose to go for someone else for next season. The ex-Celtic boss made the best case possible for himself after delivering on his promise of winning a trophy in his second season at a club.

However, Daniel Levy has already started looking at potential managers that could start a new era at Hotspur Way. Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner and former Ajax boss Francesco Farioli are the favourites to replace Ange Postecoglou at the helm in the summer. Fans will hope that Levy takes the right decision and does what is best for the club.
