Tottenham potting summer swoop for versatile playmaker with 17 assists this season

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Villarreal midfielder Alex Baena.

The 22-year-old has established himself as a key player in La Liga and he has had an excellent season so far. His performances have attracted the attention of the North London club and a report from Football Transfers claims that Tottenham are plotting a summer swoop for the versatile midfielder.

Alex Baena is capable of operating as the central attacking midfielder as well as a winger on either flank. He will add goals and creativity to the Tottenham midfield. His arrival will add some much-needed depth and cutting edge in the final third.

Spurs have been overly dependent on James Maddison and they need more quality in that department. Baena could be a quality alternative to players like Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson as well.

The midfielder has five goals and 17 assists in all competitions and his numbers are likely to improve when he’s playing in a better team alongside better players. Tottenham have an attacking system and their style of play could bring out the best in the Spaniard.

A move to the Premier League will be an exciting opportunity for the midfielder and it will allow him to showcase his quality at a higher level. Tottenham have an exciting squad and they might push for trophies next season. They could be an attractive destination for the midfielder.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can secure an agreement with the Spanish club now. He has a long-term contract with them until the summer of 2028 and Villarreal are under no pressure to sell him for a knockdown price. They could easily demand substantial amount of money for the midfielder this summer.
