Tottenham have Juventus strikers Dusan Vlahovic and Jonathan David on their radar after Randal Kolo Muani’s jaw fracture

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury list has been growing in recent weeks. Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie missed the few games after the October international break. Archie Gray has been ruled out for several weeks after picking up a calf strain in training, and on Saturday, another Spurs player joined the casualty list.

Randal Kolo Muani suffered a fractured jaw following a clash with Manchester United defender Harry Maguire during the 2-2 draw in the Premier League. The French forward, who was substituted at half-time, has been ruled out of France’s World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Azerbaijan. Fortunately, he will not have to undergo surgery.

Yet, Kolo Muani’s injury remains significant and has ruled him out of action for several weeks. His unavailability after the November international break leaves Thomas Frank with just Richarlison as an out-and-out No.9. This is because Dominic Solanke is also sidelined, recovering from an ankle surgery. The timescale of Solanke’s return is not yet known, although Frank is hopeful that he will come back before the end of 2025.

Two names on Tottenham’s striker shortlist

One key issue for the Tottenham boss has surrounded his lack of a regular goalscorer, with the likes of Richarlison and Mathys Tel struggling to provide a regular supply of goals. Add that to Kolo Muani’s recent injury and the Lilywhites have become short up front as far as the number goes. This could force the north Londoners to dip into the January transfer market for a new striker.

According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham have drawn up a shortlist of No.9 options which features two Juventus forwards. Dusan Vlahovic and Jonathan David are the two names to have emerged as targets for the capital-based club.

Dusan Vlahovic has been heavily linked to Spurs in the last couple of months. The Serbian international’s contracting is up at the end of the season, meaning the January transfer window would be the last time for Juventus to cash him in.

Vlahovic’s Juventus teammate Jonathan David is also attracting interest from Tottenham, as Frank looks to solve his team’s goalscoring woes. David has struggled to get going in Turin after arriving on a free transfer from LOSC Lille in the summer. The Canadian international has also managed to manufacture just a goal and an assist from 10 Serie A games and has fallen below Vlahovic in the pecking order.

Tottenham desperate for a goalscorer

It is abundantly clear now that Spurs are set to target a pure striker when the window reopens on January 1. Vlahovic and David are two good options with different playing style and skill-set.

Juventus are demanding €20m to sell Vlahovic in January, and by offloading him, the Turin giants would also manage to get rid of his hefty salary. In David’s case, the Serie A side would only sanction the 25-year-old’s exit if Spurs can propose a loan with the option to buy.

The Hotspur Way chiefs are set to consider several factors before making a decision over moving for one of the above targets. On paper, Vlahovic would be a better fit than David in Frank’s system at Spurs, but it would be intriguing to watch who is brought in at N17.
