Tottenham will let Bergvall leave in January

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall started the campaign by giving fans hope that a bright young prodigy was blossoming in the club’s first team. However, things have not exactly worked out in favour of the Swedish star, who has featured in less than 500 minutes for the Lilywhites this season and started his only Premier League game so far in the campaign against Southampton last weekend.

According to Express , Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to let Lucas Bergvall depart the club as early as in January and have reportedly offered La Liga side Espanyol with the chance to land him in the winter. The Catalan outfit is supposedly keen on parting company with Alejo Veliz sooner rather than later and Spurs are looking to aid the vacant midfield position in their squad by sending Bergvall to Barcelona next month.

It remains to be seen what Bergvall’s opinion is on departing north London to join the Spaniards, especially midway through the season, while it is also unclear as to what the Espanyol board thinks with respect to having the chance to sign him. A potential transfer to the RCDE Stadium for Bergvall would hinge on the side being able to part with Alejo Veliz first.

Ange Postecoglou has not shown Lucas Bergvall the faith he possibly deserves, though it is unfair to blame the Australian manager for the same. He has been under tremendous pressure for much of the campaign and also has a quality midfield with adequate depth, thus jeopardising Bergvall’s chances of featuring on a regular basis. With that being said, it is unlikely that the teenager’s situation will change in the second half of the season, so a loan exit could suit him.

At Espanyol, he would play regularly in a league that is technically adept as well. Having the momentum of minutes under his belt, at least for the next six months, could do wonders to Bergvall’s confidence and also benefit Spurs, as a player that is likely to constitute their long-term plans will have game time before the summer, when several decisions regarding the ageing players may be made.
