Tottenham are hoping to splash the cash in January as club aims for new reinforcements in the winter.

Tottenham need to add attacking reinforcements in the winter window as the club looks to revive their Premier League campaign under Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites have struggled badly in the final third this season, finding it difficult to score goals consistently. The Danish tactician must also shoulder some of the blame for these attacking issues, as his approach has focused more on avoiding goals conceded than on finding ways for his side to put the ball in the net.

There is a clear requirement to sign a new striker in January as the club aims to close the gap on its rivals during the second half of the season. Richarlison, to his credit, has performed reasonably well while leading the line for the North Londoners. He is currently the club’s top scorer across all competitions, with eight goals to his name. However, there remains a concern among fans that the Brazilian may simply be enjoying a temporary purple patch.

Meanwhile, summer signing Randal Kolo Muani has yet to find his feet at N17. The Frenchman is still searching for his first Premier League goal of the season for the Lilywhites. This has raised questions about whether his playing style is suited to English football, as he continues to struggle to end his league goal drought. Dominic Solanke has also failed to fully recover from an ankle injury this season, leaving Frank with limited options in attack.

Tottenham might need to act fast to land Jean-Philippe Mateta

It comes as little surprise that Tottenham are targeting a new striker during the winter window. Recent reports suggest the Lilywhites are keen on signing Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta in the coming weeks, with Thomas Frank understood to be a huge admirer of the player. The Frenchman is believed to be open to a move in the second half of the campaign, having shown no signs of extending his stay at Selhurst Park.

Mateta has made significant progress at Palace under Oliver Glasner’s guidance. The 28-year-old played a key role in the Eagles’ FA Cup triumph last season, finishing as the club’s top scorer in all competitions with 17 goals and four assists. He has carried that form into the current campaign, scoring ten goals and registering two assists in just 30 appearances.

As a result, it is no surprise that several clubs are monitoring the prolific striker ahead of the second half of the season. According to Sky Sports (via X) , Manchester United are willing to rival Spurs for Mateta’s signature in the winter window should he become available. The Red Devils are also keen to bolster their attacking options and see the 28-year-old as an ideal fit to lead Ruben Amorim’s side.

Spurs should do everything possible to secure Mateta’s services in the coming weeks if Palace are willing to let him leave. The Frenchman has already proven his quality in the Premier League, emerging as one of the competition’s most effective attackers in recent months. He would also offer a different dimension in the final third, consistently occupying dangerous goalscoring positions for the Lilywhites.

Will the North Londoners show ambition and land Mateta as they look to build on last season’s Europa League success, or will they allow the Frenchman to join one of their Premier League rivals instead? Only time will tell.
