Mohammed Kudus suffered a thigh injury during Tottenham’s clash against Sunderland last weekend.

Tottenham fans went through a rollercoaster of emotions last weekend as their side dropped two crucial points at home against Sunderland in the Premier League. The result saw the Lilywhites continue to hover in the bottom half of the league table, with just two home league wins all season, underlining the amount of work still to be done in the upcoming fixtures.

A disappointing night was made even worse when summer signing Mohammed Kudus was forced off in the first half following an injury scare. It was not pleasant viewing, as the Ghanaian looked visibly tense while slowly walking off the pitch alongside the physio. Fans initially hoped it was merely a precautionary change by Frank, but it was soon revealed that the 25-year-old was set to miss the upcoming clash against Bournemouth.

Kudus has been a mainstay in Thomas Frank’s side this season, playing a crucial role for the Lilywhites on the right-flank. He has missed just one game for the North Londoners since his summer switch, against Manchester United in November. As one of the first names on the team-sheet, the Ghanaian has been central to everything Spurs have done in the final third during the first half of the campaign.

Tottenham star Mohammed Kudus set to be side-lined for few weeks through injury

Tottenham face a crucial Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Wednesday night. It is a must-win game for the Lilywhites if they are to close the gap on their rivals this season and secure European qualification come next summer. A victory would take them within touching distance of the top-five spots in the table. However, Thomas Frank is set to face a major selection headache ahead of the encounter with the Cherries.

As per Matt Law (via The Telegraph), scans have shown that Mohammed Kudus’ thigh injury is far worse than initially expected, and the Ghanaian is set to miss several matches in the coming weeks. With Spurs competing in three different competitions during this period, the absence of the 25-year-old would be a significant blow as the club look to build on last season’s Europa League success.

The decision to sell Brennan Johnson at the start of the window now appears even more questionable. There was little need to part ways with the Welshman so early without securing a replacement who could compete with Kudus for the right-wing position. It goes without saying that Johnson would have stepped in for Kudus had Spurs retained the 24-year-old this week.

Thomas Frank will now be hoping to explore his options in the market, as Spurs do not have a direct replacement for Mohammed Kudus in their current squad. The Lilywhites will need to act quickly and sign a player who can slot into the starting eleven and make an immediate impact during the Ghanaian’s absence. Only then will the North Londoners give themselves a realistic chance of putting together a positive run in the second half of the campaign.

Will we see Tottenham show real intent in the market and replace Kudus? Or will the club ponder and make the wrong decision once again? Only time will tell.
