Tottenham Record First Premier League Win Without Harry Kane or Son Heung-min in Five Years

Tottenham Hotspur won a Premier League game without Harry Kane or Son Heung-min for the first time in more than five years on Wednesday night.

Spurs had not picked up three EPL points without calling on Kane or Son since January 2019 when Dele Alli and Harry Winks were on target in a 2-1 triumph at Fulham.

But five managers and 1,837 days later, goals from Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Richarlison helped Ange Postecoglou's men come from 1-0 down to beat Brentford 3-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With Son still at the AFC Asian Cup following South Korea's penalty-shootout win over Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, Timo Werner started on the left wing against Brentford.

The former Chelsea wide man produced a fine run and cross to provide Johnson with a simple finish in the 49th minute.

Johnson's goal came just 73 seconds after Udogie had drawn Spurs level following Neal Maupay's first-half opener.

Spurs then went 3-1 up on 56 minutes when Richarlison scored for the seventh time in seven EPL games after collecting a rebound from a blocked James Maddison shot.

Richarlison netted just once in the Premier League last season after struggling to find his place in an attack led by Kane, who left Spurs to join Bayern Munich in August.

Spurs had to endure a nervy final half-hour on Wednesday after a terrible back-pass by Udogie gifted a goal to Ivan Toney.

But Postecoglou's side held on for a win that took them up to fourth place in the EPL table - ahead of Aston Villa, who lost 3-1 at home to Newcastle 24 hours earlier.
