Tottenham Hotspur are heading into a big summer transfer window that will define the next generation at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Indeed, after a Premier League season that saw them finish just above the three relegated sides and sack their head coach Ange Postecoglou, Spurs are looking to strengthen their squad and build on the Europa League success. They will have Champions League commitments to take care of next season, so new boss Thomas Frank must require a bigger squad at his disposal to be competitive.
Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel have joined the North Londoners permanently following their impactful loans from RC Lens and Bayern Munich, respectively, while highly-rated Japanese defender Kota Takai is set to move to White Hart Lane from Kawasaki Frontale. Now, the club’s focus will apparently shift towards adding more quality to their attacking ranks, and the Lilywhites are now eyeing a move for a player who has been heavily linked with a move to bitter rivals Arsenal in recent weeks.
According to Spanish outlet Cadena Ser, Tottenham have now registered their interest in Real Madrid forward Rodrygo. Chelsea and Manchester City are also monitoring the Brazilian’s situation, with Real Madrid slapping a €90 million price tag on his head.
There has been heavy speculation regarding Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid in recent months. Despite new boss Xabi Alonso describing him as a ‘spectacular’ player at his unveiling at Santiago Bernabeu, the forward did not get a single minute against Pachuca in the Club World Cup on Sunday. Brahim Diaz was preferred ahead of him off the bench as 10-man Real beat Pachuca 3-1.
This has further fuelled speculation surrounding the Brazilian international’s future. The aforementioned report adds Rodrygo’s departure appears a possibility this summer and the club has already set a mammoth valuation—a figure that will the La Liga giants to sign the midfielder Alonso has requested for.
This has alerted plenty of clubs across Europe, especially from the Premier League. However, the strongest links so far has come from Arsenal, who are eyeing a quality player to cover for Bukayo Saka next season. The Gunners are now set to face unwelcome competition from Tottenham, as Thomas Frank looks to rebuild the squad upon his arrival at N17.
Rodrygo has a fantastic player for Real since officially arriving from Santos back in 2019. In five years, the South American star has won every single major honour with Los Blancos, playing starring roles in plenty of the club’s success mostly off the bench. At 24, he certainly has his best years ahead of him and would be a sensational addition to any of the aforementioned clubs.
Meanwhile, reports from last month suggested Daniel Levy is ready to show ambition in the transfer market and make a marquee signing after Tottenham’s Europa League success and subsequent qualification to the Champions League. And in Rodrygo, who can play across the front line, Levy would not only make a statement signing but also stop a quality player from heading across the divide and strengthening our bitter rivals’ squad.
