Tottenham ‘remain in the hunt’ for Premier League star with a summer move in mind

Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of their long-pursued player, with Radu Dragusin officially joining the club earlier this month.

Despite securing the services of the Romanian centre-back, Spurs are said to be still keen on signing another defender, and have not given up on their pursuit of Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite.

And according to journalist Simon Jones of Daily Mail, Spurs ‘remain in the hunt’ for the young Premier League star, with the player’s home-grown status adding an extra layer of appeal to the North London club.

Jones stated in his report:

“Tottenham were thought to have dropped interest after signing Dragusin this month but they remain in the hunt as they prepare to build their squad further in the summer. Branthwaite’s home-grown status is another attraction for Premier League sides.”

At just 21 years old, Branthwaite has attracted interest from some of the top clubs globally, including Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea, alongside Tottenham.

Branthwaite has been a standout performer in Everton’s defense, forging a solid partnership with James Tarkowski.

The defender is Sean Dyche’s key man in protecting the backline, making 18 appearances in the Premier League this season.

His reliability has been evident in key defensive metrics, ranking high in interceptions (5th with 32), clearances (8th with 86), and the percentage of dribblers tackled (7th), according to Fbref statistics for the current Premier League season.

Everton may aim to retain Branthwaite, especially given their current position near the relegation zone after a 10-point deduction.

But Spurs may consider a move for the defender in the upcoming summer transfer window.

TBH Says:

Let’s be honest, a move to Spurs is not very likely considering the stature of some of the other clubs interested in signing him.

But the fact that we are after some of the most highly sought players is encouraging. And we have recently witnessed that Ange Postecoglou has the ability to convince players  to join his project at Spurs.

If we do sign him, that would certainly be a big show of intent from Spurs.
