Tottenham Hotspur have zeroed in on Samu Aghehowa, the 21-year-old FC Porto striker tearing it up in Portugal. The Lilywhites are actively tracking him as part of a plan to refresh the attack, especially with the Harry Kane situation always hovering in the background.
That is as per TEAMTALK . Nobody at Spurs has ruled out Kane returning from Bayern Munich one day, but they’re not sitting around hoping. They’ve already built a list of young strikers under 24 across Europe, and Samu is one of the standout names.
Since moving to Porto, he’s been ruthless. The Spain international has scored 32 goals and provided three assists in 52 matches, including five goals in his first six games this season. Scouts have flagged his pace, strength, movement off the ball, and lethal finishing. He runs in behind, plays on the shoulder of defenders, and needs very little time to make something happen.
Right now, Richarlison is the only fully fit natural No.9. Dane Scarlett isn’t quite ready, Kolo Muani is working his way back from a dead leg, and Dominic Solanke is recovering from ankle surgery. If they want to compete properly, especially across multiple competitions, they know they need more firepower.
Thomas Frank’s system would suit Aghehowa, colloquially called Samu. Spurs need a striker who can stretch the pitch, press hard, and finish chances without overcomplicating things. At the moment, they rely heavily on wide runners and rotations in midfield to generate openings. Bringing in a forward who offers real presence in the box and threatens the back line would transform that front line, particularly against teams that sit deep, say something like Arsenal.
If Kane never comes back, Spurs want someone they can mould into a star rather than buying a finished product with limited upside. Samu fits that vision and most importantly, he’s producing now but still has a ceiling to grow into.
