ENIC’s £100m boost sets the stage for Tottenham Hotspur’s ambitious January transfer plans

There’s a growing sense of anticipation around Tottenham Hotspur. The London club already shows an exciting mixture of youth and flair in their squad. Now it adds an extra spark with a £100 million cash injection from majority owners ENIC. TEAMtalk revealed the move first, hinting at big plans for the upcoming January transfer window.

Spurs ended the summer window strongly after they signed Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig for over £50 million. They also brought in Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani on loan. Simons has already shown his creativity, which convinced Tottenham to beat Chelsea for his signature.

Kolo Muani, however, started slowly after he picked up a training injury. Thomas Frank’s side now holds third place in the Premier League and continues an unbeaten run in Europe. That progress fuels fresh optimism, and the Lewis Family’s decision to invest heavily directly responds to that growing momentum.

As TEAMtalk’s Dean Jones reported, the club plans to use a large part of the funds to strengthen the attack. He said Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo remains on their radar, though signing him in January could prove difficult. Jones also said Spurs might bring in a new centre forward and expects the club to decide before the end of the year.

“Squad investment is a top priority, and while every area is being explored in some shape or form, I think the attack is the area to look out for as the most interesting.”

“We already know they like [Antoine] Semenyo, and very soon they are going to have conversations that outline other potential targets.”

“My personal feeling, based on what I’ve heard, is that they feel Semenyo might be too difficult for January. That doesn’t mean they won’t push for it, but it does mean they might have other considerations too for the front line.”

“It might even be that they sign a new centre forward – these are the sort of things they aim to address and decide.”

“This month is key to getting lists together, and they will whittle it down in time for the end of the year when they step things up. But the squad investment figures will be significant.”

Meanwhile, reverting to some other transfer news, we reported that Tottenham need to fend off competition to land Adam Wharton. Another update said Orlando City showed interest in signing Richarlison. That story adds another twist to the Spurs’ forward plans.

Positions Tottenham Must Reinforce in January 2026

Tottenham’s priorities look clear when anyone examines the current squad. Son Heung-min’s departure left a big gap on the left wing. Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert both impressed in patches, but Spurs still lack a consistent left-sided forward. They need a player who scares defenders and turns chances into goals. Tottenham need a forward with pace, creativity, and composure who can give Frank’s side the advantage in tight matches.

In midfield, injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have already exposed a lack of depth and creativity. Though Xavi Simons settles well into the No.10 role, the squad still needs another playmaker. They need someone who controls games and breaks down compact defences. The New York Times pointed out that Spurs must add a technically sharp central midfielder to maintain their depth in that position during a busy schedule.

Defensive problems still worry fans. Despite their recent signings, if Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are injured, then it can expose a weakness in the back line. Spurs must bring in an experienced centre-back who fills in without disrupting the team’s rhythm. Spurs can’t rely only on their main defensive pair during a long season filled with league and European fixtures.

Tottenham now faces a defining moment. The club’s strong ownership support and an ambitious coach drive belief inside the camp. The January window can shape their future. The right mix of experience and energy can lift this side from potential to genuine contenders. Tottenham fans, what’s your view: should the club focus on a new winger, a creative midfielder, or a reliable defender this January?
