Tottenham Hotspur appear set to fall short in their pursuit of Jonathan David

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring in attacking reinforcements in the summer. The Lilywhites need to address the issues in the final third of the pitch after enduring a dismal season. They are doing just that by targeting attacking players to bolster the squad depth and enhance the ceiling of the squad by a notch.

The Spurs players have struggled to perform consistently this season and that has costed the club a lot of games. Ange Postecoglou’s men have lost numerous games by the smallest of margins. It is clear to see that the lack of finishing at the top end of the field has costed them three crucial points for most parts of the domestic season.

Last summer’s statement signing Dominic Solanke has also admitted a tough start to life at N17. However, the England international has found his mojo back in recent weeks and has managed to get on the scoresheet in crucial games. But, other attackers like Richarlison and Mathys Tel have struggled to make an impact. The former has already fallen down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou this season.

Tottenham to lose on Lille striker Jonathan David

There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to add an attacker in the summer to compete with Dominic Solanke. With Richarlison heading for the exit doors once the season ends, Daniel Levy is expected to bring in a new striker to fill the void left behind by the Brazil international. The Lilywhites are forced to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy this summer after enduring a disastrous Premier League campaign.

It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing Jonathan David from Lille. The Canada international is all set to exit the French club in the summer as a free agent after choosing not to extend his contract. The aforementioned report also added that Daniel Levy saw David as a shrewd signing that would provide a different dynamic to the Spurs attack.

But now, the Lilywhites have faced a massive blow in their efforts to land the Lille star. As per Football Insider, Tottenham are all set to miss out on signing Jonathan David in the summer. The report adds that the prolific striker has chosen to join Napoli instead and he is keen on working under Antonio Conte. This will be a huge blow for Spurs in their hunt to sign a number nine.

Daniel Levy will now need to switch his focus on other players if he wants to replace the outgoing Richarlison. Tottenham are also linked with Borussia Monchengladbach striker Tim Kleindienst for next season. The Lilywhites view the German striker as a perfect backup of Dominic Solanke. It remains to be seen what Levy decides to do now regarding the number nine position in the team.

Fans will hope that the North London club manage to make the most of the transfer window. Spurs need to close the gap on their rivals next season, and addressing the issues in the transfer window is the first step towards achieving that.
