Tottenham Hotspur shubbed by Pisa defender Francesco Coppola

There is no surprise that Tottenham need to bring in defensive reinforcements in the summer. The Lilywhites have managed to keep just six clean sheets in the Premier League this season and several individual errors at the back have costed Ange Postecoglou’s men some crucial games. Numerous injuries to key defenders have not helped the club’s cause either.

However, it is important to note that Spurs showed resilience in their Europa League campaign and managed to keep a clean sheet in the final as well. The North London club’s strong defensive display brought an end to the 17-year wait for a major trophy at N17. The Lilywhites beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final and it was their defensive performance that saved Ange Postecoglou’s blushes in the end.

But Daniel Levy cannot get complacent now as Spurs need to build on the Europa League success and kickstart a new era next season. Many key players are expected to leave the club for pastures new in the summer as Tottenham look to shuffle the squad. The Lilywhites also need to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy if they want to bring in new signings in the summer.

Pisa reject Tottenham’s advances for Francesco Coppola

It is now an open secret that Tottenham are looking to bring in a new centre-back in the summer. With Cristian Romero heading for the exit doors at N17 once the season ends, the Lilywhites will need to sign a quality defender to fill the void left behind by the Argentina international.

As per La Nazione, Spurs tried signing Pisa defender Francesco Coppola this week after their huge Europa League success. The 20-year-old has endured a successful campaign out on loan in Italy and Daniel Levy wanted to bring the centre-back to N17 to compete for a spot in the starting eleven.

However, the aforementioned report also suggests that Pisa were quick to reject any advances from Tottenham for Coppola’s signature. The Italian club recently got promoted to Serie A for next season and want to keep hold of the centre-back as they intend to fight against relegation next year. After sending the 20-year-old out on loan this season, Pisa intend to bank heavily on the youngster as they look to remain in the top-flight next year.

Daniel levy will need to shift his focus on other defenders now as the transfer window approaches. The Lilywhites are also interested in signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. The England international is liked by everyone at N17 and Levy believes the Palace star will be a perfect player to replace Cristian Romero in the backline next season.

The fans will hope that Tottenham address the problems at the back quickly as they look to build on the Europa League success. Winning the Europa League has also ensured a huge influx of money heading Spurs’ way next season. The North London club could utilise those funds effectively as they look to close the gap on their rivals and compete for trophies again next season.
