Tottenham winger Heung-Min Son is facing an uncertain future at N17

Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-Min Son has gone through all the ups and down at N17 through the years. The prolific winger has endured a legendary career at the club and he has the chance of lifting his first major trophy with the Lilywhites in three days’ time. Ange Postecoglou’s men face Manchester United in the Europa League final this season, and they have the chance of ending Spurs’ long-standing trophy drought.

But for Son, this means a lot more than just a game. The 32-year-old has waited for almost a decade to lift silverware at N17. He has come close to winning the Premier League and the Champions League as well in recent seasons. Winning the Europa League and bringing silverware back to Hotspur Way might just be the best way for the Spurs No.7 to bid goodbye to the North London club.

The South Korean has featured in 453 games for the club, scoring 173 goals and providing 101 assists in that time. It was at N17 that he won the Puskas award for his splendid solo effort against Burnley. Fans will hope that Heung-Min Son decides to stay put for another season as Tottenham would try to close the gap on their rivals and hopefully compete for trophies.

Tottenham star Heung-Min Son might stay for another season at N17

Tottenham captain Heung-Min Son has endured a ‘stop-start’ campaign this season. The prolific winger has struggled to perform consistently and lost his place in the starting eleven in recent weeks as well. Despite having 23 goal contributions to his name this season, the South Korea international has struggled to step up in crucial games.

Son signed a new one-year contract extension with the club earlier this year, which meant that he would be staying at N17 until 2026. Many fans believed this was done as Daniel Levy was looking to sell the prolific winger for a fee in the upcoming transfer window, rather than letting him leave for free.

But now, much to the delight of the Spurs fans, the Spurs No.7 is expected to stay put at Hotspur Way. As per TBR Football correspondent Graeme Bailey,

“I’m told Son could remain at Spurs beyond this summer and as we know, it’s totally dependent on the manager. That’s why you’re not really seeing many links abroad, because I think it’s still possible that he has a future at Spurs. Obviously, but that is very dependent on who takes over, as they are expecting Postecoglou to go.”

The future of Heung-Min Son will depend on who the next Spurs manager is. It was reported earlier that Daniel Levy would sack Ange Postecoglou once the season ends, irrespective of the result in the Europa League final. If that is to be the case, Son will end up staying at the club and rebuff interests from Saudi Arabia.

Tottenham have already started approaching other players in case the South Korean leaves the club in the summer. Spurs are interested in signing Leroy Sane from Bayern Munich and view the Germany international as the perfect replacement of Heung-Min Son. But, before deciding on the future of key players, Daniel Levy must first decide Ange Postecoglou’s future at N17.
