The star has overstayed his welcome at Tottenham despite impressive form this season.

Tottenham must change their approach in the transfer market if they want to build a top team and compete for major honours in the coming years. The Lilywhites have often held on to underperforming players for too long, which has led to their market value declining over time. That is exactly what appears to have happened with star striker Richarlison at N17.

The Brazilian was tipped to head for the exit last summer after it became clear that he was no longer part of the club’s long-term plans. However, Thomas Frank decided to stick with him, giving him the opportunity to prove his worth at N17 by offering regular game time this season. To the 28-year-old’s credit, he repaid Frank’s faith by emerging as the club’s leading goalscorer in all competitions, with eight goals to his name so far.

He has been one of the standout performers in an otherwise inconsistent Spurs side this season. However, Richarlison’s recent injury could make it difficult for the Lilywhites to retain him beyond next summer. It may be wiser to cash in on the player, given his age and the fact that he cannot be relied upon to lead the line throughout an entire campaign. The Brazilian is set to spend the next seven weeks on the sidelines after pulling his hamstring against Aston Villa in the FA Cup earlier this month.

Richarlison is all set to head for the exit doors at Tottenham in the summer

Tottenham forward Richarlison played a crucial role for his side during the first half of the campaign. The Brazilian stepped up when it mattered most and linked up effectively with his fellow attackers in the final third. However, the latest hamstring injury could mean that he may no longer feature as prominently for the North Londoners once he returns to full fitness in the coming months.

As a result, it makes sense for the club to cash in on the player next summer. The 28-year-old also had the opportunity to leave Spurs during the winter window. However, he chose to remain at N17 in an effort to keep his World Cup dream alive. Now, though, it appears that Richarlison may have lost his place in the starting eleven under Thomas Frank following Dominic Solanke’s recovery.

It comes as little surprise that the prolific striker has been linked with a summer move. According to ESPN Brazil, Spurs have given Richarlison the green light to secure a move away from N17 in the coming months. The Lilywhites are hoping to part ways with the Brazilian for around €25m as they look to bring in a stronger replacement for next season. The same report claims that several clubs across two continents have asked to be kept informed about his situation at the North London club.

Richarlison’s time in North London may not be regarded as an outright success. However, that is not due to a lack of effort or ability to perform at the top level in the Premier League. Rather, he arrived at N17 during a difficult period of transition both on and off the pitch. Even so, the 28-year-old gave everything for the badge and played his part in helping the Lilywhites win the Europa League against the odds last season.

Seeing him depart next summer would not be easy for the Spurs faithful, as they would be saying goodbye to a committed player who always gave his all for the team. Nevertheless, cashing in on Richarlison now appears to be the right call, as the time has come for the North Londoners to invest in a replacement with a higher ceiling and greater long-term potential for next season.
