Leicester City defender Conor Coady has lavished praise on Tottenham’s summer signing Micky van de Ven, claiming that he has been the signing of the season.

Spurs have made some fantastic signings since last summer. Players such as James Maddison, and Guglielmo Vicario have proven to be excellent additions to the club since they arrived in North London.

However, it’s Micky van de Ven who has emerged as a standout signing for Tottenham, particularly impressing with his instant impact on the pitch.

The Dutch defender was secured from Wolfsburg for a fee of €40 million, a move that is now being hailed as a bargain considering his performances.

Van de Ven wasted no time in making his mark at Tottenham, forming a formidable partnership with Romero in central defence. Initially, his performances went unnoticed, but recently, he has started getting the deserved recognition from pundits and peers.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, former Liverpool defender Conor Coady showered praise on Van de Ven and commended Spurs for securing such a talented gem.

Coady praised Van de Ven’s pace and defensive capabilities, emphasising his importance to Tottenham’s playing style and defensive structure.

He also suggested that Van de Ven could be considered one of the signings of the season due to his impactful performances.

He stated (via TBR):

“I went for Van de Ven at Tottenham. I think he has been an outstanding signing.

“We were talking about a profile of a centre-back these days, but look at where the line is for Tottenham and he has that pace to get back.

“If you are going to play that way, and how Tottenham have recruited in terms of buying him, you mentioned before about signings of the season. He would be right up there. He really, really will. It’s unbelievable. He has been a fantastic signing for Tottenham.”

Van de Ven’s speed has been recently recorded as the fastest in the Premier League, further underlining his athleticism and defensive prowess, which makes him a perfect player for Ange.

The Dutch centre-back was a consistent presence on the Spurs’ team sheet, starting in all eleven league games at the beginning of the season before sustaining a hamstring injury against Chelsea last November.

The injury sidelined him for nearly two months, causing him to miss ten games for the Lilywhites. Nevertheless, he made his return in the second week of January and has since reclaimed his starting position in the team.
