Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has the chance of doing the unthinkable and ending the club’s wait for a major trophy. The Australian has come under a lot of scrutiny in recent months for the results and performances on the pitch. But all of that will be forgotten if Big Ange manages to win the Europa League final later this month. The 59-year-old will become a legend at N17 if he manages to go all the way in the competition.
The Lilywhites have endured an embarrassing domestic campaign. Spurs are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table. They have now gone winless in their last four league matches and Ange Postecoglou has come under tremendous pressure to turn the results around. Many fans believe that winning the Europa League would just paper over the cracks and there are deeper issues at the club that still need to be looked at.
Daniel Levy has also started looking for managerial replacements in case the Lilywhites decide to sack Ange Postecoglou. The Australian still has a chance of saving his job at N17, but for that he will have to win the Europa League. It is not going to be an easy task as the Lilywhites take on Manchester United in the final.
It is important to note that many Tottenham players still believe Ange Postecoglou can turn the club’s fortunes around this season. The squad is clearly playing for the manager and they still believe in the Australian’s ideas. The constant pressure from outside has not helped Spurs’ cause this season. But amidst all the scrutiny, Ange’s boys have still managed to reach the Europa League final.
Now, Tottenham full-back Destiny Udogie has also praised Ange Postecoglou’s management. Speaking to Football.london, the Italian said,
“Obviously the manager has done a great job. He is helping us every day to be confident and to go out there and play our best football. As a group and a family, every day we speak about being together and fighting on the pitch together. Obviously, the Europa League final is a big motivation.”
Destiny Udogie insists that Ange Postecoglou has done a great job at N17. The Italy international also suggests that Big Ange is helping the players to get better and be confident. Udogie then points out that the players and the staff are a big family and the squad will fight for each other on the pitch.
It still looks like the end of the road is near for Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham. Daniel Levy is looking for managerial replacements for next season, but the Lilywhites have hit a stumbling block in their approach for Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola. The Spaniard is all set to snub Spurs and stay at Vitality Stadium for next season. Fulham manager Marco Silva is also leaning towards snubbing Tottenham and staying put at Craven Cottage.
But Big Ange cannot focus on the outside noise too much as his team have the chance of writing history at the North London club. The ex-Celtic boss has the chance to lead the club to their first European trophy in 41 years. Winning the Europa League would also ensure Spurs will play Champions League football next season and compete with the best teams.
