Micky van de Ven is aiming to create history at Tottenham Hotspur this season

Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has endured a ‘stop-start’ campaign at N17. The Netherlands international has quickly become a fan favourite at the club and Ange Postecoglou relies on the centre-back heavily. However, this season has not been the best for the talented defender due to several injury issues that have forced him to be on the sidelines for most parts of the campaign.

The ex-Wolfsburg player arrived at North London with high hopes and quickly became one of the first names on the team-sheet under Big Ange. But the Spurs manager has been forced to field a starting eleven without Van de Ven at the back for crucial games this season. But much to the delight of the fans, the Spurs No.37 is fit again and ready to make an impact in the last part of the campaign.

The Lilywhites have managed to reach the Europa League final this season. They will face Manchester United for the trophy as Ange’s men have the chance of ending the club’s long-standing trophy drought. It would be a historic achievement if this squad manages to bring European silverware back to N17 after enduring a disastrous domestic campaign.

Micky van de Ven hopes to win the Europa League final

Tottenham Hotspur fans will hope that the players step up in the upcoming final against Manchester United. Ange’s men have already beaten the Red Devils thrice this season in all competitions, so recent history suggests that it should be a straightforward win for the Lilywhites. But Ruben Amorim’s side are unbeaten in Europe this season, and have the capacity to turn up in big moments and cause an upset.

When asked about his aims for the Europa League final, Micky van de Ven told British GQ magazine,

“If you join Spurs, of course people make jokes that you’re never going to win a trophy. This group of players and staff want to make sure we change this for the fans and the club. We’ve had a really tough season, so we want to end positively – for us, and for the fans for how they have supported us this season.”

Micky van de Ven has suggested that the squad is aiming to silence all the critics this season and put an end to the endless trolling of Tottenham not winning a trophy. The Dutch centre-back has also acknowledged that it has been a tough season for the Lilywhites and they are aiming to end the campaign on a high by winning the Europa League.

The Spurs No.37 is expected to start the final and it is fair to say that Ange Postecoglou will rely heavily on the Dutchman if Tottenham want to win the game. It will not be wrong to suggest that this game is one of the most important fixtures in the club’s modern history. Van de Ven and his teammates have the chance of ending the trophy drought and ensuring their names are etched in the right side of Tottenham’s history books.
