Tottenham Hotspur got another update on Mohammed Kudus that has fans paying attention. Football.london report that the winger has not linked up with Ghana during the international break after the knock that kept him out of the past two matches.
The 25-year-old winger joined Spurs in the summer for around £55 million from West Ham and settled quickly, providing five assists and scoring one in his first 10 league appearances.
The side also looked confident with him on the right flank, and his ability to cut inside gave their attack a different feel. However, the Ghana international missed the 4-0 Champions League win over FC Copenhagen and the dramatic 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
Frank described his condition as a minor issue before the Copenhagen match, and he suggested that Kudus remained close to a return. Even so, the winger did not make the squad against United. He stood in the tunnel early in the match and later joined the bench to watch.
Ghana face Japan and Son Heung-min’s South Korea during this break, but Kudus stayed in London. Spurs will hope the extra rest helps him recover fully. Fans view him as one of the bright sparks of this season, and his return could help the attack settle again.
The Ghana international is an elite dribbler, and that is why he is so important for Thomas Frank’s system to succeed. In the 2024/25 season, the 25-year-old completed more successful take-ons than any other Premier League player, and this directly fixes Spurs’ inability to open up deep-lying defensive teams.
Frank generally builds his system on attacking transitions and creativity from wide players. So, a fit and firing Kudus from the right wing, who can constantly beat his man and create opportunities, will be a major boost for the Dane.
Moreover, Kudus can play in any position across the frontline, which provides the much-needed flexibility to Frank, and that will bring back the unpredictability in attack. He has the potential to help correct Tottenham’s home form issues.
The team has struggled to break down stubborn defences at home. Kudus’s ability to drive past defenders, operate in tight spaces, and deliver high-quality crosses will provide the boost that the attacking third needs. His pressing intensity and work rate will help Frank’s philosophy of winning the ball high up the pitch and launching quick counter-attacks, which can transform their home performances.
With Arsenal up next, it is for the best that Kudus is in North London, working on his fitness. We will certainly need him at his best vs Mikel Arteta’s early trendsetters.
